Yi Hua (formerly known as Hanwen Zhang; b. 2002, China) is a painter who currently lives and works between Chicago and Shanghai. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2025.
Yi Hua’s work emerges from her experience of perceptual dislocation. In her perception, time and space lose their order, folding into, flowing through, and shifting against one another. Through these layered movements, the boundaries between past, present, and future—and between reality and imagination—gradually dissolve. Painting becomes a means of reorganizing perception and reconstructing order within a disordered world.
